I graduated with a Media Arts degree from the University of South Australia in 2013, majoring in Film & Television. My corporate work experience includes logistics, writing and public relations.
With 8 years of experience in content creation, I am a corporate writer and a copywriter. In the aspect of corporate writing, I specialise in annual report writing, corporate website content, creation and structuring of presentation decks and press statements.
Meanwhile, my experience in copywriting includes the creation of marketing materials such as social media and blog posts, as well as marketing materials such as brochures and product copies.
How did you get involved in this industry?
I gained exposure to corporate writing during my second job as a corporate writer with a PR firm. Having had the opportunity to write documents, reports and communication statements, mainly for publicly listed companies in Malaysia, this experience allowed me to learn and understand the specific style associated with corporate writing. As I delved into it, I developed a keen interest in the intricacies of writing within a corporate context, which drove me to further hone my skills.
What made you decide on Corporate Writing / Copywriting as a business?
After 3 years with the agency, I ventured into entrepreneurship alongside freelance writing.
Of the many factors that changed throughout my 5 years in entrepreneurship, writing as a freelancer remained one of the constants, which allowed me to gain further exposure to different industries, clients and projects. Recognising my continued passion for writing, I made the decision to become a full-time writer and dedicate myself to delivering high-quality content consistently.
What differentiates you from your competition?
I enjoy working in collaboration with cross-functional teams to create a masterpiece. I find it very satisfying to be able to communicate and integrate feedback effectively among team members to deliver a strong and high-quality project.
What is the value that you and your business provide?
I am adaptable and versatile in my writing skills. Whether it’s crafting engaging blog posts, press releases, financial analyses, annual reports, or social media content, I am able to adapt my writing style to different mediums and target audiences. I also conduct effective and thorough research on industry trends and market outlook and extract key insights that can help tailor the messaging to resonate with the intended audience.
What is your insight for the industry?
I firmly believe that good copywriting is crucial as the best way to deliver any key message accurately and effectively. To be able to provide room for imagination as readers glance through the text and the ability to appeal to their emotions is the ultimate goal of storytelling.
What are some challenges and opportunities in relation to your industry?
The emergence of AI has certainly raised concerns about it potentially threatening traditional professions such as writing, however, I am positive that the need for human writers persists. While AI may be able to generate content efficiently, we cannot deny that it lacks the human touch and creative flair, which brings life to written pieces. As a writer, my aim is to have my work connect with readers through narratives that resonate with individuals, which cannot be replicated by AI.
