Mr. Tim Liew holds a BA (Hons.) in Accounting & Finance and is a serial entrepreneur / speaker with
18 years of experience in the retail design industry. He is the co-founder of Visata Creative
Sdn Bhd. He also holds the title of Certified Mall Marketing & Leasing Manager (CMMLM) as certified
by the Malaysian Shopping Mall Association (PPKM). The Certification is also endorsed by Malaysia
Retailers Association (MRA), Malaysia Retail Chain Association (MRCA), Real Estate and Housing
Developers Association (REHDA) and FIABCI Malaysia.
He has been asked to give guest lectures with the Malaysian Shopping Mall Association (PPKM) and
also serves as a master trainer for Business Network International (BNI). He also serves as the Chairman for the Retail, Food & Beverage Subcommittee in the Small & Medium Enterprises Association (SAMENTA) which focusses on assisting retailers, food & beverage business owners to digitalise and automate their businesses.
He has also been featured in publications such as Focus Malaysia and also on radio such as BFM & Durian Asean speaking on the topic of Retail Trends and Automation.
How did you get involve in the industry and in Malaysia
It all started 18 years ago with his passion is in Retail Branding, Retail Management and Graphic Design and in fact Tim is a self-thought graphic designer. His mission is to “Help Retailers to Grow Great Brands” and believes that great branding and retail experiences can not only help a business survive but bring amazing intrinsic value to its customers. His firm services clients such as Jaya Grocer, Nikon, Fotokem, Za Altera and developers such as Sime Darby, Paramount Properties and many others.
What made you decide to go do this business
As was his passion to travel to visit different shopping destinations to take in new retail concepts in a hope of furthering his education is retail design and management, the decision to go into the business was an easy one! Tim’s firm belief is that retail in Malaysia and the South East Asia region can be elevated to a new level which will create better and more wondrous retail experiences.

With 18 years of experience under his belt within the field of retail, Tim believes that his focus in the industry and his insights into emerging retail technologies within the field will allow him to help his clients build better retail experiences and also help his clients’ businesses to be more profitable.
What differentiates you from your competition
What differentiates his company from that of his competitors is his focus in the area of retail design and retail technology consulting. Till date, working with tech partners such as Intel has allowed Visata Creative to design better retail outlets and also to create unique retail experiences for its clients (i.e. Retail Business Owners). Coupled this with 18 years of connection within the retail & mall networks has allowed Tim and his team to bring significant value to his customers.
What is your insight for the industry or marketplace
With the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the world of retail has changed significantly. No longer can retailers purely focus on transactional (i.e. selling goods) activities with their customers.
Instead they have to look for ways to engage and curate unique retail experiences for their customers and Visata Creative is here to help with that.
What are the challenges and where are the opportunities for Malaysian retail businesses
Malaysia with its strong command of the English language and friendly & diversified culture make it the perfect place for visitors to truly glimpse a taste of Asia. Our retail scene is one of the most dynamic within the region coupled with a strong multi-cultural heritage, there is truly something different for every visitor to experience when they visit our country. However, there must be continued re-investment and improvement by retail businesses to ensure that we remain on top of the retail industry with our offerings and concepts less we run the risk of loosing out to our neighbors.
