I am Kei Onn Thong, and I am a member of Black Swan Property Group Sdn Bhd. Our company’s vision is to be the most Trusted & Joyful Real Estate Partner. Drawing inspiration from BNI’s philosophy of Givers Gain, our company focuses on giving values to our clients through various channels: Social Media Contents; Investment Seminars & Workshop; Client Appreciation Dinner as well as a variety of community efforts.

Getting involved in the industry

Prior to embarking on Property Investment Career, I worked at PWC as an Auditor. The transition to property investment career was an interesting one – I was planning to buy an investment property myself. At the time it was when MCO hits, and in the investment world there is this saying of “When there is Crisis, there is Opportunity”

So, I searched up for information and classes online. After getting grasp of what property investment roughly is, I realised that I have huge passion for it and enjoyed the process. Since then, I never stopped improving myself and kept an explorative growth mindset in sharpening my investment analytic skills, aim to not only help our clients but also to walk the talk on the property investment journey.

Why this business

The two biggest reasons among all are First, I found an interesting gap in the market that needs to fulfilled; Secondly, the gap is what I am really good at. As a Property Investor myself, I understand the feeling of needing the assurance of accurate information, methodology and analysis. Through my understanding of the industry, there are many gaps to improve and fittingly enough it is what I am passionate about. These are why I chose to be in this business and going into the industry.

Challenges and opportunities for Malaysian businesses in relation to the property industry

One of the key factors that makes property investment great but at the same time, posing challenges for businesses is the level of inflation. While Real Estate hedges against inflation, businesses are affected by it – ranging from increasing rent, utility to higher price of acquisition of piece of property that businesses needed to occupy/own. In relation to our agency, there is where we fit in to search for options and giving the right advise so that business owner can leverage the right timing and to hedge inflation to further protect their businesses.
