How did you get involved in the industry in Malaysia?

Let’s face it, nobody grows up thinking they will one day be a will writer!

However, being a financial planner, I know how important having a will is.

Since the majority of our population have not done their wills, I figured that this is a service that is highly sought after yet not properly understood.

What is your goal in this industry?

I would like to educate people on the importance of estate planning and to clear misconceptions on will writing and estate planning in general. I also strive to provide my clients with good advice to properly structure their wills and/or trust to best protect their assets and loved ones.

What are some of the misconceptions of having a will?

  • I am still young, hence I don’t need a will
  • I am not rich yet, so I don’t need a will
  • Writing a will is like cursing me to die soon
  • Getting a will done is an expensive endeavour

The above are some of the general misconceptions associated with will writing. Having a will is not about how young/old you are or how rich you are. It’s all about protecting your loved ones. Getting a will done does not cost much, but not having one costs so much more!

What differentiates me from others?

Being also a Certified Financial Planner, I am able to provide advice to my clients to create a functional estate plan to best protect their family, assets and business.

I usually spend time to share my knowledge to clients to ensure they are better informed on important aspects of estate planning.

At the end of the session, they usually have a better idea of how they can structure their estate plan properly.

What are the challenges in this industry?

There are a lot of misconceptions associated with will writing and estate planning and it takes a lot of effort and time to clear any preconceived thoughts from clients.

There is also a lot of competition, not just from other estate planning companies, but also from banks, lawyers and others.

Most people would assume that we all provide the same services, but that could not be further from the truth!
