Hello, I am Ethan Ng, Executive Director of the NHL Group of companies, which operates branches in the Klang Valley. The company’s headquarters is based in Melaka, with additional branches in the Klang Valley and Johor.

The company was founded in 1986, initially focusing on the used car business and later becoming a new car dealer carrying brands such as Isuzu, Perodua,
Proton, Mazda, Suzuki, and NETA.

How did you get involved in the industry?

How did you become involved in the industry? It’s a family-centric business, and I’ve been learning
its processes since childhood, spending every school holiday immersed in it. It feels like it’s
ingrained in me. After completing my Master’s degree in the UK, I joined the family business.

What made you decide to go into this business and industry?

Growing up in a family deeply entrenched in the automotive dealership business, I was immersed
in every facet of the industry from an early age. The bustling atmosphere of cars, meaningful
interactions with customers, and the ever-shifting market dynamics shaped my upbringing
profoundly. Witnessing my family’s dedication to the business naturally fostered a profound
connection and insight into the automotive realm.

My decision to enter this industry wasn’t solely driven by familial ties; it stemmed from a genuine
passion for automobiles and a clear understanding of Malaysia’s vast market potential. In our
country, car ownership is the norm for most adults, creating a distinct and substantial market for
dealerships.

Recognizing the magnitude and consistent growth of this market, I perceived an opportunity not
only to participate but also to actively contribute to its expansion. Being part of an industry that is
both substantial and constantly evolving appealed to my appetite for challenge. The dynamic nature
of the automotive sector provided a platform where I could implement innovative strategies,
thereby enhancing the overall growth and efficiency of the business.

In essence, my decision to enter the automotive industry was a convergence of familial influence,
personal passion, and a strategic grasp of market dynamics in Malaysia. It goes beyond
participating in a well-established family business; it’s about leveraging that foundation to make a
meaningful contribution to an industry that holds tremendous potential for growth and refinement.

There are several case of disorderly marketing and miscommunications between sales executive
and customer.

collection of the vehicles as well as trade in cars.

There is also a lot of competition of the New brand car entry to Malaysia, but local and Japanese
car still the most reliable for maintenance in termof stability, spare parts and brand awareness.
