In August 2010, Damon Kok founded FDCV Group, an architectural & interior design practice. This practice opens up the door whereby Damon involves in direct site management with sub-contractors and becoming an amateur quantity surveyor.

Damon believes that every spatial experience is unique; trying out experimental spaces that could explore human behaviours. On design approach, he prefers elemental interaction with human; creating features that intrigues passer-by, eventually the desire to explore. As spatial experience is subjective to each individual; and hence every interior space requires different design approaches.

FDCV Group recently celebrated its 14th anniversary in business. Congratulations to Damon Kok & team!

We strive to achieve a balance between all aspects of work
We provide a holistic solution to the client’s Architectural & Design needs; with our core strengths being functional design approach, through a pragmatic and systematic evaluation of a client’s brief, plus extensive collaboration with different parties and a keen eye on details.

We strive to achieve a balance between all aspects of work; working creatively within the usual fundamental constraints in the industry to provide original and innovative solutions to problems.

Architecture and Master Planning
Context plays a big part in our design approach. We believe that every design, each building, on its own site is unique. There is no one size fits all in Architecture. Thus, our ethos is to always create a functional building, unique in its own right, yet respectful towards the context, be it the site and surroundings, social or cultural context.

Design aside; our firm also is well versed in the practical side of project management, with our partners having extensive experience in project managements and implementations. We take into consideration on the construction methods, costs, and time when we start on the design, allowing for a more efficient and cost-effective project.

Interior Design & Spatial Planning
Complementing our Architectural services, FDCV Group also offers our unique approach to Interior Design and Spatial Planning.

Our comprehensive approach takes into account of social, cultural and human behavioural patterns, enabling us to produce spatial qualities that are sensitive to the needs of the end users. We believe that a good design always starts with a good understanding of the usage patterns of users, and we strive to do so by being attentive and collaborative with the clients and other relevant parties. The palette of materials, usage of colours, choice of finishes, and most importantly, the layout of the interior space plays an integral role in our design approach. We believe in keeping abreast with the latest technology and materials available on the market, allowing us to update and advise the clients on this advancement, and implementing in our design if they suit our needs.

Challenges in our industry & profession
The architectural industry in Malaysia faces several challenges that impact its growth and development. Here are some of the key challenges:

Regulatory and Compliance Issues:

    • The industry is heavily regulated, with strict compliance requirements related to building codes, zoning laws, and environmental regulations. Navigating these regulations can be complex and time-consuming.
    • Lengthy approval processes for construction permits can delay projects and increase costs.

    Economic Fluctuations:

      • The industry is sensitive to economic conditions, including fluctuations in property markets, construction costs, and investment levels.
      • Economic downturns can lead to reduced demand for architectural services and delays in project funding.

      Skilled Workforce Shortage:

        • There is a shortage of skilled architects and construction professionals, which can limit the industry’s ability to meet demand.
        • Retaining talent is also a challenge, with many skilled professionals seeking opportunities abroad.

        Competition:

          • The industry faces stiff competition, both from local firms and international architects seeking to enter the Malaysian market.
          • Competitive pricing pressures can impact profitability, especially for smaller firms.

          Client Expectations:

            • Clients increasingly demand innovative, cost-effective, and timely solutions. Meeting these expectations while maintaining high design standards can be challenging.
            • The push for customization and unique designs adds complexity to projects.

These challenges require architects in Malaysia to be adaptable, innovative, and knowledgeable about both local and global trends in the industry.

            Opportunities in Malaysia
Opportunities are in the healthcare and education industries. As Malaysia’s population grows with increased sophistication, healthcare related building developers or private school owners like kindergarten preschool, international school, colleges, or universities owner/ developers would be looking for more professionals like us to help them roll out their plans.

We would like to work with
We would like to establish links with more partners in the following segments. Boutique developer like Bon Estates, Healthcare Project division such as Sunway, Sime Darby, and KPJ. And property agent/ agency that deals with bungalow land/ subsales bungalows at Sierramas, Tropicana, and Damansara heights.
