How did you get involve in the industry.
It’s a family-oriented business. I joined the family business after graduating from my UK Master’s Degree.

What made you decide to go into this business and industry
Growing up in a family deeply involved in the automotive dealership business exposed me to the ins and outs of the industry from a young age. The constant buzzing of cars, engaging interactions with customers, and the ever-changing market dynamics were integral parts of my upbringing. Observing my family’s efforts in the business naturally cultivated a deep connection and understanding of the automotive world.

My decision to step into this industry wasn’t solely influenced by family ties; it sprang from a genuine love for automobiles and a clear recognition of the vast market potential in Malaysia. In our nation, owning one or two cars is the norm for most adults, creating a distinctive and sizable market for dealerships.

Understanding the enormity and consistent growth of this market, I saw an opportunity not just to be a part of it but to actively contribute to its expansion. Being involved in an industry that is not only substantial but also constantly evolving appealed to my desire for challenge. The dynamic nature of the automotive sector provided a canvas where I could apply innovative strategies, contributing to the overall growth and organization of the business.

In essence, my decision to enter the automotive industry was a convergence of familial influence, personal passion, and a strategic grasp of market dynamics in Malaysia. It goes beyond participating in a well-established family business; it’s about leveraging that foundation to make a meaningful contribution to an industry that holds tremendous potential for growth and refinement.

Some insights with regards to the automotive industry.
As part of my last knowledge, the online education market in Malaysia was growing rapidly, and the demand for online English courses was on the rise. Malaysians appreciate flexibility in learning, hence, providing courses that are self-paced or offer flexible schedules can attract more learners at all age.

  • Current Situation:
The current situation in the Malaysian automotive industry is marked by both challenges and opportunities. While the market remains robust, there are indications of shifts in consumer preferences, especially with the growing emphasis on sustainability and technological advancements. The COVID-19 pandemic has also influenced purchasing behavior, with fluctuations in demand and supply chain disruptions affecting the industry.
  • Interesting Trends:
Several trends are shaping the automotive landscape in Malaysia. There is a noticeable increase in the demand for environmentally friendly vehicles, driven by concerns about climate change and a growing awareness of sustainable practices. The rise of electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrid cars is gaining momentum, indicating a potential shift towards cleaner and more fuel-efficient alternatives. Additionally, advancements in connected car technologies and the integration of smart features are becoming increasingly prevalent.
  • Market Dynamics:
The Malaysian automotive market dynamics are characterized by a diverse range of consumer preferences. Traditionally dominated by Japanese car brands, there is a notable influx of new players, including Chinese brands. This diversification not only broadens the choices available to consumers but also intensifies competition among manufacturers. Furthermore, economic factors, government policies, and changing lifestyles contribute to the dynamic nature of the market.
  • Chinese Brand Entry:
The entry of a Chinese automotive brand into the Malaysian market is a noteworthy development. This introduces a new layer of competition and provides consumers with alternative options beyond the established Japanese brands. The Chinese brand’s presence may impact pricing strategies, technological offerings, and customer perceptions, influencing how other players in the market position themselves to remain competitive.

In summary, the Malaysian automotive industry is undergoing a transformative phase marked by shifting consumer preferences, technological advancements, and the entry of new players. The rise of sustainable and connected vehicles, along with the emergence of Chinese brands, adds an intriguing dimension to the market, creating both challenges and opportunities for industry participants. Staying attuned to these insights is crucial for businesses to adapt and thrive in this evolving automotive landscape.

Challenges and opportunities for Malaysian businesses in relation to the automotive industry.
Looking ahead, the gradual acceptance of electric vehicles (EVs) by the market poses both challenges and opportunities. While it signifies increased competition, especially with the anticipated entry of more Chinese brands into the Malaysian market, it also opens doors for innovation and growth.

One of the challenges we currently face is the predominant sales of internal combustion engine vehicles and hybrid cars under our brand, indicating a slower adoption of EVs. However, this challenge presents an opportunity for us to strategically transition and capitalize on the evolving market demands.

The government’s proactive approach in incentivizing citizens to embrace electric vehicles through tax and road tax subsidies creates a favorable environment. These initiatives not only address environmental concerns but also stimulate the market for electric vehicles, potentially accelerating their acceptance.

In essence, the challenges of market transition and increased competition are balanced by the opportunities for innovation and growth, especially with the government’s support in promoting electric vehicles within the industry. It is crucial for Malaysian businesses to navigate this evolving landscape strategically to stay competitive and contribute to the sustainable development of the automotive sector.
