Upcoming Speaker/Presenter: FAYE LIM – JUSTIN FAYE & PARTNERS

I am a litigation lawyer; with my main area of practice being civil litigation since year 2012.

“Litigation” is not a common word – it comes from the word “litigate” which simply means to ask for a disagreement to be discussed in a Court of law so that a legal decision can be made.

Justin Faye & Partners (JFP) was incorporated by my founding partner, Justin Ong Ing Hou & I more than 5 years ago, in year 2017.

Whilst the team including our lawyers, pupils and staff constantly equip ourselves with the latest legal developments and adapt to the constant changes of the legal landscape, one element of our practice will never change, that is – efficient and proficient legal services.

How did you get involve in the industry

The area of law had always piqued my interest since I was in college. I thoroughly enjoy understanding how logical it is and following the rationale of a certain law being implemented in a certain manner.

After completing my post-grad studies, I found love in litigation and the ability to structure / strategise to obtain the best commercially viable & legal outcome for a client. With a fantastic mentor who guided me throughout my formative years in general litigation, I grew to not be afraid of any situation and to apply different areas of law to an issue, which some others may not even envisage.

What made you decide to go do this business and get involve particularly in the industry?

Justin and I were colleagues in our previous legal firm; when he asked me to start up a firm with him, I truly believe that we would be a right fit together to commence this legal firm because of our commonality in drive, passion and thought process even since our earlier employment days.

Our vision as to how we envisaged a partnership, the level of responsibility and the methods to assist our clients were aligned, with the best interest of our clients always at heart.

What differentiates you from your competition

Not only are we able to provide a wide range of services, we also practice providing pragmatic advice to ensure issues are solved with minimum delay or disruptions.

Further to being an Advocate & Solicitor, I am an accredited Adjudicator with the Asian International Arbitration Centre and obtained the AIAC Certificate in Adjudication Course since 2018.

I was also the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee Chairperson of the Corporate & Conveyancing Practice Committee for year 2021/2022 and the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee Co-Chairperson of the Civil Practice and Court Liaison Committee as well as the Social Arts and Culture Committee for year 2022/2023.

Amongst the publication I have published (co-author) arethe Malaysia chapter on Dispute

Resolution vide the Dispute Resolution Review, 6th Edition; published by Law Business Research in year 2013 and the recent Annotated Statutes of the Debtors Act 1957. Aside from having the relevant legal and practical expertise, my team is also able to communicate effectively in Mandarin and Cantonese.

What is your insight for the industry

Unfortunately, there will always be disagreements and promises which are reneged upon. This will have to be resolved legally in Court. With more people being aware of their rights, the litigation industry will continue to be an industry that will be required by the public.

Helping people solve their issues is my passion. Importantly, I strongly believe that each person needs to understand the full process and each stage of litigation s/he is in, in order to make an informed and concise decision every step of the way.
